Prior to qualifying as a play and creative arts therapist, Papia has worked for over 20 years as an early year’s educator around the globe. She is deeply passionate about the holistic development of a child. Having seen the first-hand benefits of creative arts and play as a classroom teacher, she wanted to offer the therapeutic benefits to a larger number of children of different age groups. Besides offering play therapy to individuals, Papia also offers services to small groups of children.

Play therapy is a self-directed therapeutic approach to counselling for children 4-13 years. It uses play and creative arts as a therapeutic tool to help to express and resolve any social, emotional and behavioral issues that are causing difficulties in a child’s day to day life.

Papia offers children a variety of therapeutic mediums to use ranging from creative arts, sand, clay, puppets, games and Lego.  Since the sessions are led by the child and the therapist follows, over a period of time, a trusting relationship is built between the child and therapist. This allows the child to feel safe enough to play out his/her anxieties and concerns expressing themselves through metaphors, actions and perhaps talk.

The goal of the play therapy is not only to relieve the immediate symptoms but also to build self-esteem, better self-awareness and coping skills. Papia believes in working collaboratively with parents and children offering support and guidance in a combined effort to overcome challenges.

Papia lives by the motto: ‘Forget all the reasons it will not work, believe in the one reason it will’
