James qualified as a psychologist at UCD in 1989 and received a doctorate from UCD in 1998 for research on personality styles and stress.  He graduated with an MBA from Heriot-Watt University Business School, Edinburgh in 1992 and subsequently gained a Masters Degree in Psychotherapy in 2000 from St Vincent’s University Hospital, Elm Park, Dublin.  

James trained clinically with Community Psychiatric Services at St Ita’s Hospital, Portrane, Co Dublin and has worked as psychoanalytic psychotherapist at St Francis Day Hospital, Raheny, Dublin 5 for the past four years in addition to private practice.  James is also experienced in working in a Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) modality.
