Ian is a registered psychologist working in the public health service, specialising in mental health and psychological assessment.  He has previously worked as a psychologist for services which provided assessment and residential care for children with emotional and behavioural difficulties and also assessing the psycho-educational needs of children and adults with the Dyslexia Association of Ireland.  Ian has extensive experience in assessment and is currently a senior lecturer in psychological assessment on the Doctoral Training in Counselling Psychology (D.Couns.Psych.) in TCD.  He was also the assistant course coordinator of assessment training course for qualified psychologists which ran in TCD.

"I conduct educational and attentional assessments for both children and adults and work in a way which aims to make the assessment process as comfortable as possible for all involved.  I feel it is very important that the process has as little impact of the individual as possible and I aim to be very accommodating to any needs which arise on the day.  I also produce reports which are readable and practical so as to be as useful to parents, teachers and other relevant parties.  I aim to discuss all stages of the assessment and results in as clear a way possible, and from my experience of training others in assessment, I am aware of most of the questions parents and individuals may have. Additionally as an advisor to the DARE scheme, I have in depth knowledge of the application procedures and processes, which may be useful to leaving cert students".
